Even in times of chip tuning and electronic brake management systems, technological progress seems to have passed without leaving much of an impression when it comes to tyre tread depth measurements on vehicles or – to put it more precisely – has stopped at the stage of optical measurements on fixed tyre testing installations.

Through the ProContour H3-D we are now offering for the first time to public authorities, industry as well as trade and business a multi-functional measurement system which includes different system types capable of measuring tyre tread depth even under real road traffic conditions.

The traffic safety system which is designed for flexible use is based on the fundamental principle of laser triangulation. Through tyre sensors which are incorporated in the road, highspeedcameras record and measure the 3-D profiles of tyres within milliseconds.

Here the system has the capability of processing fast quantities of data in order to be able to measure tyres at had high speeds (up 120 km/h): up to 35,000 images per second or 6 TB per minute…
