ProContour H3-D jure is the measurement system for mobile and stationary monitoring of tyre conditions in flowing road traffic. It measures, installed in an U-trough or in shafts under the road, automatically tread depth and tyre type for truck and trailer combinations, buses and passenger vehicles up to 120 km/h, making the results available in a measurement vehicle or online for further tracking.
Depending on the type of application the measurement process may be synchronised with a triggered camera or number plate identification for the detected vehicle. Since the applications by the public authorities can differ widely, the ProContour H3-D jure is available in different system variants which are adapted to the specific kind of application. In March 2008 the regional control group of the police department Lüneburg, Germany checked within the scope of cross-federal checks 119 heavy vehicles in cooperation with different public authorities on both carriageways of the Autobahn 1. The outcome: 43 of the 80 German and 26 of the 39 foreign country heavy vehicles were objectionable, in 54 cases the technical condition gave reason to complaint.
Damaged truck tyres are generally highly indicative of further deficiencies and malfunctions affecting the overall vehicle condition; well ahead of the checkpoint it was possible to detect, using the ProContour H3-D jure, suspect vehicles thereby allowing for very much more efficient checks owing to the pre-selection. In this way administration efficiency could be increased significantly.

The motorway police in Germany is part of the municipal police of the federal states even though there are some federal states which do not maintain a motorway police of their own and where such tasks are usually assigned to the traffic police. But what all have in common is the task of traffic monitoring and control of offences on the motorways in their area of responsibility.
Installed on one or more lanes, it is possible through the ProContour H3-D jure to implement ,either mobile or stationary, far more preventive and traceable control assignments which in the past were only possible involving large numbers of staff: the advance screening increases the number of hits and accuracy thereby permitting a faster throughput of tickets, regulatory offences and reports. Using mobile equipment it is also possible to run, without much complexity checks at different locations, which in turn increases the effectiveness of the equipment.
