The wheel/tyre system is an important component of the entire vehicle and essential regarding driving safety. To offer tyres which are even safer, lighter in weight, more durable and more energy efficient for equipping new vehicles or for retrofitting, is the common target of the industry and its many associations. Through the ProContour H3-D facto we are offering a multi-functional measurement system for measurement series, statistical surveys and practical development tests. Because whatever innovations emerge from development: at the end everything focuses on the grip of a few postcard-size tyre surfaces – significantly influenced by the properties and depth of tyre tread. We provide the measured tyre segment immediately by way of a 3-D height profile thereby permitting documentation of tread depth and tread contour over the full tyre circumference

Since industry and branches which are involved in the broadest sense in tyres and road traffic safety pursue widely differing application targets, there exist for the ProContour H3-D facto different system variants which specifically match the respective application focus. Basic requirement when selecting the matching variant is a careful review of requirements. In the following we present four typical applications in which the ProContour H3-D facto has been found as an efficient means in achieving specific goals.

There are enough convincing arguments for fleet owners and forwarding agents not to commit their capital by purchasing tyres when tyre leasing is the more economic alternative. But in the past these solutions were unsatisfactory to both sides.

Today numerous service vendors are offering fleet contracts in which only the actual wear of the heavy vehicle tyres will have to be paid and through which expensive idle periods due to tyre damage are reduced to a minimum. Through the use of the ProContour H3-D facto the efficiency of such monitoring can be further optimised: installed at the entrance or the exit of the forwarding agent’s premises, the fleet manager on the one hand will have at his disposal reliable information on due tyre changes and tyre conditions. On the other hand the tyre and service partner is informed via Internet "just-in-time" and may, based on this information, plan his stock levels and service capacities to ensure a quick tyre change – a procedure which in the past was only possible manually, time-consuming and costly through a field sales force.

Whether the utilisation of nano zinc oxide particles in tyre mixtures for the manufacture of environment-friendly tyres or asymmetrical traits for improved safety or adapting of tyres to the respective type of engine and driver assistance systems – the advances in the area of driving dynamics are always also the result of numerous test processes and test runs geared at improvements in the area of vehicle/road contact.

It is thus in the interest of the manufacturing and processing industry, the transportation industry in particular, to ensure here proactively and preventively compliance with the highest transportation safety standards.
